Hey, there! I’m Rachael.
I’m so glad you’re here! I am a 2nd grade teacher turned stay-at-home mom, married to my best friend. When I’m not chasing around my toddler or doing chores, I’m dipping my toes into a little bit of everything! I am a mildly crunchy, nature loving woman that enjoys cooking, crafting, crocheting, amateur photography, game nights, reading, spending time with friends & family, and traveling.
I started helping my mom cook from a very young age. Honestly, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t begging to help prepare a meal! By the time I went to college, I knew my way around the kitchen, but I was by no means a chef (some of my cooking skills still need refining…it’s a constant work in progress). Being responsible for every stage of the cooking process rocked my world! Meal planning was not a strong skill of mine, and it didn’t get much better when I started teaching. Even if I had meal planned, I was typically too exhausted to cook, so I commonly ordered take out. It seemed like my fridge was always conducting mystery science experiments, and every time I turned around something new in the crisper was mushy.
I wasn’t raised in a wasteful house, so my food waste has grated on me over the years, both financially and morally. I always felt like I could do better, but I kept finding excuses to put it off. College, teaching, and being a new mom were all exhausting! Even though it is my favorite job, being a mom, period, is exhausting! Then there’s the juggling act of doing household chores, fostering my relationships with God and my husband, having a social life, and making time for self-care. It can overwhelm me at times, but, at the end of the day, I know I need to make reducing our household food waste a priority.
With nothing but a spatula in my hand and some leftover gyro meat, my idea for this blog was born! Que the late night research and jaw-dropping findings.
Now, I’ve been on this journey to reduce my household food waste for about a year. I didn’t expect to learn that I, like many others, have such a wasteful mindset when it comes to food.
I’m passionate about overhauling this food waste mindset, and seeking out new strategies to help our planet and our budgets.
I would love to share my tips and recipes so you can join me on this journey, too! And since none of us are perfect, I’ll sprinkle in how to take preventative measures to preserve and use up your food along the way.
My blog is for the tired, the stressed out, and the convenience seekers that see the trouble our home is in and want to do their part, but feel helpless. I hear you. I see you. I’ve been you (heck, I still am you)! I’m here to help you find your inner food waste warrior and cultivate good habits for your success!
